History
The Union of South Africa was created on May 31, 1910. It became a sovereign state within the British empire in 1934, and a Republic on May 31, 1961. It left the Commonwealth in October 1968, and rejoined in May 1994.

As the plane landed, John Jr. pressed his face against the window, amazed by the vast landscapes. They arrived in Pretoria, the administrative capital. The city buzzed with energy and John Jr. felt a wave of excitement. 'Welcome to South Africa,' his dad said with a smile.

In Bloemfontein, the judicial capital, John Jr.'s family visited a museum about South Africa's history. He learned about the country's journey to becoming a republic and rejoining the Commonwealth. 'South Africa has a rich history,' his mom explained.
